Designer L'Wren Scott was found dead in her Manhattan apartment on Monday morning. Scott apparently used a scarf to hang herself from a doorknob, The Daily News reports, and was discovered by an assistant after she sent a text asking her to "Come by."
The 6-foot-3 designer, a former model, had been dating Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger since 2001. Jagger said in a statement that he is "completely shocked and devastated by the news."
Scott launched her eponymous label in 2006. Her streamlined designs soon became red carpet favorites to leading ladies Michelle Obama, Sandra Bullock, and Nicole Kidman, who wore a L'Wren Scott sequin gown at the 2013 Academy Awards.
Tribute notes from friends of the designer have been pouring in on social media platforms since the news broke. Scott didn't leave a suicide note, but her death follows the last-minute cancellation of her London Fashion Week show last month, which was blamed on "production delays in key show and couture pieces," according to WWD. Other fashion sources speculated that her business was struggling.
She was 49.
