Video: Nautica, Fall 2012

Nautica-fall2012-video

A look at the making of Nautica's fall 2012 presentation.

When we attend a fashion show it's a pretty straightforward proposition: check in, sit down, wait around for the lights to dim, watch the models walk up and down the catwalk, and rush off to the next. If, instead, it's a presentation that we're headed to, we drop by at our leisure to some glamorous, well-lit location, gawk at the hot models, make a mental checklist of things to buy next season, and, hopefully, snag a few free libations. But for those harried PR reps, models, make-up artists, hairstylists, designers, stylists, and countless others who actually produce these mini style spectacles, a ton of unseen work goes into making everything look so effortless. Nautica--the classic brand anchored (no pun intended) by a seaman's lifestyle (again, no pun intended)--enlisted filmmakers Drew Reilly and Scott Schweizer to capture all the preparation that make these moments of sartorial brilliance come to life so vividly. For fall 2012, the label focused on updating the utilitarian uniforms of those who live and breathe a maritime existence. Deriving inspiration from sailmakers, dockhands, admirals, and coastal prepsters, the seafaring apparel was an appropriate blend of practicality and polish (navy toggle coats, a washed-out denim fisherman vest, high-top boat shoes, a crisp, white blazer were just a few choice pieces). Check out the video below to see how it all went down. Quick note, though. We hate to say it, but because it was a fall/winter collection, the men were fully clothed--no nipples here, folks. Don't you just hate that?
