The Belgian designer collaborates with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation on a collection inspired by artistic and sexual freedom.

Since leaving the creative helm of Dior's women's collections, Raf Simons has been focusing on what he does best: provocative menswear. Showing his upcoming spring 2017 line at Pitti Uomo, in Florence, Italy, Simons paid tribute to the enfant terrible of photography, the great late Robert Mapplethorpe.

Shirts bore black and white prints of Mapplethorpe, including his most erotic body of work (one garment featured his infamous "Mr 10 1/2" picture of an erect penis), as well as color transfer of floral still life and polaroid portraiture. The models looked like Mapplethorpe had time-traveled forward to 2016: Flowy overshirts and stripes gave a bohemian, art student feel to the show, while the leather accents and fetish-inspired accessories channelled the photographer's taste for R-rated content.
