Two years before West Hollywood officially became a city of its own in November of 1984, this is what Los Angeles's Boystown looked like. "The New Mr. Burlesk" describes the photo set as "a sort of 'walking tour'... from east to west. The area covered happens to be the Christopher Street West parade route along Santa Monica from Crescent Heights on the east to La Peer on the west."
Note the vending machines for our sister publication The Advocate, complete with retro logo. The slide descriptions note places where new bars have taken the place of old ones (The Nail has since become Fubar), and marks places that are still hanging on -- if barely, including Irv's Burger.
