Fox Sports Southwest somehow missed the fact that new hire is a raging homophobe.

In 2011, former football star Craig James left his gig as an ESPN sportscaster to run for one of Texas's two U.S. Senate seats. Soon after, during a 2012 campaign debate, conservative Republican James made clear he didn't think there was any debating equality. Being LGBT is a "choice," he said, before declaring that LGBT people will have to "answer to the Lord for their actions."

"We have a fiscal issue in this country, and we have a moral issue in this country," he said, citing his Christian faith as proof of his so-called expertise on morality.

James lost that race, so he decided to return to the wide world of sports and in late August landed a gig with Fox Sports Southwest. He appeared once and has since been fired, because, according to Fox Sports, "We just asked ourselves how Craig's statements would play in our human resources department."

Of course, James made his anti-gay remarks long before he was hired in August, so either Fox Sports didn't properly research his background or did vet him and then, after hearing complaints, decided to sack James. Too little, way too late?

Here's video, via TMZ, of James's anti-gay remarks.
