'It is a meditation on the acceptance of violence and discrimination against people of color, women and the LGBT community,' says Alynda Lee Segarra

"My sexual identity is who I am," Alynda Lee Segarra told us when she and the queer members of the band were photographed for this year's Out100. And that sentiment also imbues the new video for the hit song, "The Body Electric," which NPR Music calls the Political Folk Song of the Year.

As producer Joshua Shoemaker explains:

"This video is a meditation on the acceptance of violence and discrimination against people of color, women and the LGBT community. We took these frustrations and paired them with classic imagery that would be recognized by most, allowing us to set a tone for the narrative. Replacing the Botticelli's Venus with a Katey Red, the transgender mother of 'sissy bounce,' is something that speaks clearly without having to be salacious or heavy-handed."

Aside from the video, all remaining funds from The Body Electric Indiegogo Fund are being given to local New Orleans organizations including Third Wave and The Trayvon Martin Foundation.
