Roundabout Theatre Company announced today that Golden Globe-nominated actress Emma Stone will replace Michelle Williams as Sally Bowles this fall in the current Broadway revival of Cabaret starring Tony winner Alan Cumming. Stone joins the cast November 11, 2014 through February 1, 2015, and Cumming has extended his run as the Emcee--along with Linda Emond and Danny Burstein, who were nominated for Tonys for their performances--through March 29, 2015.

Stone, best known to movie audiences for her work in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Help, had previously been in talks to play the Bowles character before having to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with a feature film. Oscar-nominated actress Williams (Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine, My Week With Marilyn) made her Broadway debut earlier this year and received mixed reviews (including heaps of praise) for her interpretation. As Michael Musto stated in a review of the show: Williams plays Sally "as a chirpy, self-sabotaging, sad girl." It will be interesting to see how Stone, known for her gravelly voice, will interpret "Maybe This Time" and "Cabaret."

Cumming and Natasha Richardson won Tonys for their 1998 performances as the Emcee and Sally in that production--also from director Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall (co-director/choreographer)--which ran until 2004. Cumming will be pulling double-duty while The Good Wife is on CBS this fall. He recently shared an Instagram photo that showed his "day job" as Eli Gold on the popular TV show, and his "night job" as the Emcee. His heartbreaking memoir, Not My Father's Son, will also be released in October.
