Growing up Mormon, Tyler Glenn "never really associated being gay with happy thoughts," sharing that "It was always something I always had to hide." However, after coming out as gay in a March Rolling Stone interview, the musician has been received warmly by both his fans and even active members of the Church, feeling comfortable enough to share details about his life on which he had previously been tight-lipped. Now, he's teaming up with fellow gay Mormon Kendall Wilcox to allow others like him to share their stories.
With the Kickstarter for Far Between, the pair is seeking to change the conversation on Mormonism and LGBT issues. Feeling that most discussion on the topic is dominated by divisive polemic and pointless screaming matches, the documentary instead looks to re-orient the dialogue to one of sharing and mutual understanding. Having collected over 200 interviews from "those who are gay, straight, same sex attracted, transgender, Mormon, former-Mormon, the faithful and the no longer religious," the film allows for moments of real human connection from across the spectrum, giving people a safe place to tell their stories without fear of judgment or political voodoo.
