Vaginamain

The series lays bare the vagina of the collective gay male mind.

A Kickstarter campaign started by filmmaker/visual artist Keith Wilson and writer Shannon O'Malley, promises to bring to life the two things that were once worlds apart: gay men and vaginas.

The art book, subtly titled, "Gay Men Draw Vaginas," will include 220 pages with all kinds of depictions of a woman's inner workings as imagined by hundreds of men. Every drawing, from the conceptual to the abstract and the anatomically correct, are all divided into sections such as the "Monsters" and "80s Vag."

The art project, which began three years ago at a restaurant, where Wilson, his partner and O'Malley along with a group of friends, made some unenlightened comments on vaginas. Spurred on by this, O'Malley challenged Wilson to draw a vagina. The drawing, which they all critiqued, prompted an entire night of "vag chat." (An evening that sounds very reminiscent of scene from the fourth episode of Orange Is the New Black season two.) Eventually this challenge among friends turned into a project to find out what the collective gay male mind thinks of the female anatomy.

The duo, who describe their picture book as "a sort of, gay vagina anthropology," hope to raise a stretch goal of $50,000 to fund the book's publishing. And with just two weeks to go before their Kickstarter project comes to a close they might just get there.
