By now it's a cliche to say that America in the 1950s moving into the 1960s was not a receptive place for new, and sometimes, radical thinking. A monumental change was on the horizon in terms of social acceptability based on appearances, but not ideas--especially any which challenged the overall conservativeness of the country's mindset.
In its first season, Masters of Sex saw the voices of the sexual revolution--William Masters and Virginia Johnson--shunned by the medical community for the lascivious content of their work. Their working relationship, further strained by their own participation in their sex studies, grants volatility to both of their personal lives. Masters, married and a new father, and Johnson, a divorced mother and newly engaged, must decide how they'll proceed to keep their personal and professional reputations intact. With sexual politics and intrigue in every episode, we're never quite sure who is going to be on the table strapped to the monitor while they get it on--all in the name of science. So just get ready for another wild ride.
