Webby Awards Honor George Takei, LGBTQ Viral Campaigns

On Tuesday, the Internet's biggest stars turned out for the 18th Annual Webby Awards, which celebrated the web's 25th birthday. At the top of the invite list were LGBTQ's biggest stars and online campaigns.

For its Google+ Same Sex Marriage campaign, Ogilvy Paris won Agency of the Year and was presented the award by Jason Collins. Following the Webby five-word speech rule mandated by comedian and host Patton Oswalt, Ogilvy Paris tempted viewers by coyly stating, "The secret of success is..."

Another highlight of the night, a Vladimir Putin impersonator representing advertising network M&C Saatchi NY stripped down to rainbow underwear and accepted the People's Voice Award for Social Urban & City Innovation for #VirtualPride.

Keeping it short and sweet, George Takei exclaimed, "Shatner, eat your heart out!" while taking home a Webby for his web series Takei's Take with AARP.

Other winners at the New York held ceremony included street artist Banksy, Orange is the New Black stars Taylor Schilling and Natasha Lyonne, and hip-hop group De La Soul.

To end the night, the Webby's bid adieu to the selfie with "Selfie in Memoriam," a video compilation of selfie memes gone viral in 2014, including #duckface and #teacherinlaborselfie.
