Buyer & Cellar Celebrates Babs's Birthday

Set in Streisand's private basement shopping mall, Buyer & Cellar honors the diva's 72nd birthday today by offering free tickets to fans.

In honor of Barbra Streisand's birthday, Buyer & Cellar is offering fans a chance to win free tickets to the off-Broadway play today on Facebook and Twitter.

Out playwright Jonathan Tolins's hit solo comedy, which imagines if the fabled private shopping mall in Streisand's Malibu basement had an employee, is now playing at New York's Barrow Street Theatre.

The production, directed by Stephen Brackett, is also celebrating the icon's birthday all week by sharing personal messages from the cast, favorite Babs career moments, trivia, and more on social media.

Christopher J. Hanke, who replaced Michael Urie, currently stars as struggling gay actor Alex, the diva's lowliest minion, and a number of other characters. Next up: Barrett Foa will be starring in the role this May while on a break from NCIS: L.A.

When Out spoke with Tolins and his husband Robert Cary about the play last year, Cary explained:

"The way I feel about Barbra..." ventures Cary, head cocked. "I don't love, love, love her, but when she dies I will weep, because she feels like someone who is so much a part of my sense of being gay, of being in this world." He pauses. "But at the same time, she feels like a relative that I'm openly irritated with at times."
