'People really want him to be gay. And he’s so theatrical!'

Yesterday, we reported on the fact that in an interview with PrideSource, Panic! at the Disco singer Brendon Urie said he was a "little bit gay." He goes on to say in the interview:

"I guess if I had to classify myself, I'd say I'm straight. But I have, in the past, experimented in other realms of homosexuality and bisexuality. Overall I'm more attracted to women. Like with my wife, I'm just so insanely in love and attracted to my wife that I go, 'Well, OK, my love of musicals can't trump that I love pussy.' "

Out magazine contributing editor Shana Naomi Krochmal interviewed Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz back in 2008 for an Out cover story, so she want back to her interview and notes and has posted a piece on her tumblr about the experience.

Pete Wentz said to Krochmal back then: "I don't know that Brendon will ever have, like, a girlfriend-girlfriend." And he also went on to state: "People really want him [Brendon] to be gay. And he's so theatrical!" As she explains:

"I'd actually forgotten a) that Pete and I discussed Brendon's sexuality during that interview, and b) that I had not actually published it before.

"[I was] reminded me about how I'd interviewed half (then) of Panic (Jon and Spencer) even earlier than that, which triggered a vague recollection of Pete saying he had friends, maybe even on his own label, who 'are gay and don't know they're gay.'

"That quote is in the Out cover story, but going back through my notes and some old emails, I think I felt at the time that running the label comment and the 'girlfriend-girlfriend' comment together seemed too speculative, too inflammatory given the story wasn't even about Brendon--and I'd never gotten to ask him directly.

Anyway, here's to Brendon for enjoying the middle and being so damn happy about it. I don't know if marrying a lady who seems very cool and very good at helping Brendon seem even queerer is what Pete meant by him never having a 'girlfriend-girlfriend,' but it somehow makes more sense now than it did at the time."
