Hot 97 DJ Resigns Over Persistent Gay Rumors

Mister Cee has previously been arrested for sex with male prostitutes.

In 2011, when he was arrested for receiving public head from another man, Hot 97 DJ Mister Cee worked his way through the scandal. He didn't hold a news conference or explain himself. He just ignored the situation and kept on working at the popular New York City hip-hop radio station where he's spun the hits for two decades. There were debates at the time over homophobia and the closet in the world of hip-hop, of course, but largely the situation fell away, and Mister Cee kept playing hot jams.

Then, earlier this year, he was again arrested for picking up a male prostitute. But Mister Cee insisted on air it was not a male prostitute. Still, he's not gay, he insisted - twice: "I am not gay," he said after claiming the undercover cop he approached was a lady, not a man. "I am not gay."

But, you guessed it, the allegations continued, and took a new turn today with the publication of a new video in which a drag queen named Bimbo Winehouse claims to have audio evidence of an M4M dalliance with Mister Cee. Now, after all these years, Mister Cee has resigned.

"I'm resigning today," Cee said. "It is not a mystery that the past two years I've been through a lot, and I've tried to deal with it the best way that I could deal with it, and Hot 97 has tried to deal with it the best way they've had to deal with it. But when you're dealing with corporate America and you're dealing with a station you love as much as this station, I don't want to put this station through more than what they've been through."

He has not come out as gay, but Mister Cee clearly expects or knows of more allegations that will complicate his on-air life, and so he's going silent. (UPDATE: Mister Cee's resignation has been rejected. He remains on the air and beloved by his bosses.)
