"What happens to the body during sex?" That's only one of the questions that will be asked (and hopefully answered) in Showtime's provocative new sex-drama Masters of Sex that premieres Sept. 29.
While we've been disappointed by some of pay cable's forays in naked territory (Hello, Hung?), this trailer for this exploration of mid-century sexuality research focused on the real relationship of Dr. Williams Masters and Virginia Johnson is already head and shoulders (and pelvis and groin) better than most of the things we're asked to gobble up without question.
While they don't want to get all Mad Men on you, according to a recent Times story, Michael Sheen (who did not have to shave his head to play Masters) assures us he has no problem stripping down, and adds: "It's not even about being tasteful. In most shows or movies, there's usually just that one big sex scene." In Masters of Sex, Sheen said, "this is what the show's about"--awkwardness and all.
We also hear that Lizzy Caplan, who we adored in Party Down, also gets real, real naked. As she explained. "Total strangers can come and tape electrodes to their body and masturbate in front of me, and I'm just cool with it. Like, I don't even flinch at this point."
Now, will there be enough man-on-man action? We'll have to tune in to find out. In the meantime, watch the teaser trailer below:
