Come the stroke of midnight Thursday, August 1, Minnesota will be the 12th state in the union to allow same-sex marriage. (Rhode Island too will legalize equality at that time.)
Before that, though, local CBS affiliate WCCO shared video from the 1971 marriage of Jack Baker and Michael McConnell, two Minnesota men whose nuptials are thought to be the first in the nation. While the Minnesota Supreme Court later denied the validity of their vows, the men are still together and told WCCO they will not have another ceremony because they're already married.
