Mr. Gay World USA Crowned

And he's a former Marine!

Climate change must be real. We used to have summer, autumn, winter, etc. Now we have swimsuit, awards season, and allergy season. It's pageant season!

Though the Mr. Gay World USA 2013 pageant, held last Saturday night in New York City, did have a swimsuit competition--and lots more abs than those ladies' events--sadly we have no video of spectacular flubs in the question portion of the show. Again Miss Utah, well played.

A 25-year-old former Marine, Matthew Simmons of Nevada, who work a stunning black Speedo-style swimsuit and Marine Corps Blue Dress uniform, won the competition over 25 other contestants after answering a question about what makes a strong man. His answer had to do with someone who keeps to the honor, courage, and commitment principles of the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for four years. Humblebrag? No, just brag. It's a pageant, it's allowed.

Simmons now will represent the USA in the Mr. Gay World competition in Belgium on August 5, 2013.

The pageant was taped so that it can be aired as a future television special--somewhere, someday. (It's a project without a home, for the moment.) Eurovision pop diva Hera Bjork, The New York City Gay Men's Chorus, singer Dimitri Minucci, and rapper Troy Michael all performed.
