Here TV Revolutionizes Gay Television with Paid YouTube Launch

Hereforout_400x300

A new partnership with YouTube means billions of people will now have access to Here TV's subscription programming.

While LOGO has dropped a majority of its gay programming to focus on other Bravo-eque reality shows like Design My Dog, the 10-year-old Here Television network has remained committed to its vision of showing LGBT-specific programs worldwide.

With today's unveiling of their new YouTube paid channel, the network will provide billions of viewers around the world access to over 100 original shows, movies, and documentaries featuring LGBT people and cultural issues -- all on-demand, in high-def and available on TVs, computers, and mobile devices, anytime, anywhere for a monthly or yearly subscription fee -- effectively revolutionizing the way people think about gay entertainment.

It used to be that if you wanted a good gay show or movie, you scoured the web or hoped that your cable network provided it. Now the YouTube platform will allow viewers in the U.S. Canada, Great Britain, Spain, France, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and Brazil to access a hundred programs instantly with new programs added every month.

It will be the first time that viewers in some of these countries will have access to films and TV shows with characters just like them -- that's a pretty big deal.

The new channel contains comedy, horror, pop-culture, and politics (something for everyone, really), whether it's the campy but classic horror series Dante's Cove and The Lair, Sherry Vine's drag variety show She's Living for This, the up-close-and-personal marriage equality documentary Pride & Groom or Jim Morrison's political talk show For & Against.

But bringing LGBT programming around the globe is only part of the revolution. The bigger (and arguably more exciting) component is that a worldwide audience will ultimately inspire other LGBT actors, directors, and creatives to begin telling their own stories and sharing their work through Here TV and other online outlets, giving a voice to LGBT people internationally in ways that have never been done.

Josh Rosenzweig, Senior Vice President of Original Programming and Development for Here TV, said: "As we continue to create original shows, series, and movies, this new channel will allow us to have a fresh and extensive global perspective in both the development of new content and attracting an entirely new audience."

Here Television, which is Out's sister network (both are owned by Here Media), is currently in its 10th year of operation and remains the only TV network in the world focused solely on LGBT programming.
