Peter Staley, a long-time AIDS and gay rights activist, was a member of ACT UP New York, then as the founding director of TAG, the Treatment Action Group, which is the subject of first-time filmmaker David France's moving and essential Oscar-nominated documentary, How to Survive a Plague. Staley was recently interviewed by Coop on his talk show, and he tells young gay people: "Know your history." Once again, it's a great year for documentary films, and it will be a tough race, but lately Plague has been heating up the race with many high-profile interviews and supporters expressing the importance of this well-made film.
