French ELLE Says Marriage For ALL

'ELLE' shows support for a marriage equality on the cover of upcoming issue. 'Mariage pour toutes'

France has been in quite the debacle over same-sex couples' right to marry and adopt with President Francois Hollande's equality bill, which is expected to become law in the next few months. There was a recent protest of the legislation where hundreds of thousands of people joined near the Eiffel Tower, carrying pink and blue signs that said "Mother and father, it's best for the child."

Taking a stance, French ELLE, the original of the fashion magazine brand, has announced their support of marriage equality in it's upcoming issue hitting newsstands tomorrow (Jan. 18). On the cover, the magazine features two lovely brides, and it shouts marriage for all: "Mariage pour toutes."

Pink News shares that the issue also includes an editorial piece by the Editorial Director of the magazine, Valerie Toranian, who says she thinks it is right that equal marriage should be debated, and being inclusive of equality is the natural way for the magazine to go.

New York mag shared the following from Toranian's piece on how she points out that opposition and support do not fall along the familiar lines: "This debate is not primarily between old and modern, right and left, homophobes and progressives: there are gay, pro-marriage Catholics, left- and right-leaning psychologists fiercely attached to the symbolism of gender difference as a necessity for any potential child. There are feminists who advocate for IVF for lesbians, but who oppose surrogate mothers for gays because they denounce the commodification of women's bodies."
