WATCH: Adam Lambert's Tribute to Madonna
By Jeremy Kinser
Three decades of Madonna —her first single "Everybody" was released in 1982 — were celebrated by Adam Lambert with a lively take on the singer's "Ray of Light" last night on VH1 Divas Live. Stepping aside from his hosting duties, Lambert donned a black robe covered in cryptic writing causing him to resemble a Druid priest and after a rather wobbly start, the singer found the elusive key and delivered a spirited version of the 1997 hit.
The Queen of Pop reportedly chose Lambert from the special's other "divas," which included Brandy and Miley Cyrus, to sing one of her songs. “Apparently she asked for me,” Lambert revealed to VH1's Big Morning Buzz last week. “So I may just be doing a song for Madonna this week. So it’s going to be very divalicious and fabulous. When I was in high school I kind of listened to Madonna constantly, so it’s kind of come full circle.”
