The movie Koch takes a close look at the legacy of one of New York City's most famous, and controversial, mayors, Ed Koch, who is now 86. In the documentary, first-time filmmaker Neil Barsky doesn't shy away from the controversy, including mentions of the Mayor Koch's failings in the AIDS crisis (which was examined in How to Survive a Plague), which have subsequently been overlooked by many, and the questions that continue to swirl around Koch's own closeted lifestyle. In the trailer, the Cuomo campaign to smear Koch--the slogan "Vote for Cuomo, Not the Homo," attributed to the now-current Governor Andrew Cuomo--even comes up. It's sure to be a controversial topic when the film finally opens in New York in two months.

Koch had its world premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival this past October and screened at the Boston Jewish Film Festival, and it will open theatrically on February 1, 2013. Watch the trailer below.
