Adam Levine has some choice words for the Honey Boo Boo clan, and they're meant to sting. In an interview for this month's issue of GQ, the Out coverboy is asked which is scarier: Waking up not famous or waking up as one of Honey Boo Boo's parents? His hyperbolic response might surprise you.
"Seriously, Honey Boo Boo is the DECAY of Western civilization," Levine says. "Just because so many people watch the show doesn't mean it's good. So many people witness atrocities and can't take their eyes away from them, but that doesn't mean they're good. That show is literally The. Worst. Thing. That's. Ever. Happened. It's complete fucking ignorance and the most despicable way to treat your kids. Fuck those people. You can put that in the magazine: Fuck those idiots. They're just the worst. Sorry, I'm so sensitive to that--like, I don't know, man, it's upsetting. Just to clarify, I said, 'FUCK THOSE PEOPLE.'"
Harsh, Adam--especially the bit about witnessing atrocities; is Christina Aguilera not the reason we watch The Voice each week?
Highbrow entertainment it's not, but Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has struck a chord with us for its no-holds-bars candidness and larger-than-life personalities (read Rich Juzwiak's perspective on what America can learn from her). Plus, in seven-year-old pageant princess and series protagonist Alana Thompson, we have a new, sassy voice for equality on our hands. "Ain't nothin' wrong with bein' a little gay. Everybody's a little gay," she said of her uncle, whom she fondly calls Uncle Poodle.
But then again, it's Adam Levine talking here, and he's pretty enough to get us to agree with most anything.
