Minogue and Gemma Arterton are set to star in the upcoming musical comedy.

International pop star-turned-gay icon Kylie Minogue dusts off her acting chops for Walking on Sunshine. The pop/rock musical comedy co-stars Britain's Gemma Arterton, whose previous credits include Quantum of Solace alongside Daniel Craig's Bond.

Walking on Sunshine boasts a present-day plot set to timeless 1980s tunes.

Taking place in a tranquil village on the coast of Spain, it tells the story of Amanda, who's engaged to wed the hunky Raf. Come wedding time, however, it's discovered that Raf is the ex-lover of Amanda's sister, Taylor. It's one part Mamma Mia!--big hair nostalgia intact--and one part Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Let the love triangle hysteria ensue.

The film, now in pre-production, will be directed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini, the directing duo behind British indies StreetDance 3D and StreetDance 2. They've brought on John O'Connell, best known for his work on Moulin Rouge, as musical choreographer.

Minogue, who recently announced that a new album is already in the works, is no stranger to acting. She memorably got her start as Charlene in the Australian soap Neighbours. Of course, she's since become a household name and musical juggernaut. This year has marked Minogue's return to the silver screen: She played the role of Tara in the horror/romance Jack & Diane, and had a notable performance in Leos Carax's Holy Motors, which was in award competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Here's to hoping Walking on Sunshine finds a way to incorporate some Kylie classics. "The Loco-Motion," anyone?
