Jonathan Lisecki's Gayby opens in theaters October 12 (read our story with the director and actors). But it's not the first time gay men and women got together to make a baby. We look back at three previous romcoms with a baby twist and imagine where that offspring might be today.
THE OBJECT OF MY AFFECTION (1998)
Plot: Preggers by a loser she's grown tired of, straight Nina (Jennifer Aniston) tries to make a daddy of her gay roommate George (Paul Rudd).
Gayby today: This gayby's parents spent their time together bickering, ballroom dancing, or feeling sorry for themselves; we'd be shocked if she has enough self-esteem to finish middle school. Dang, can she cut a rug, though.
THE OPPOSITE OF SEX (1998)
Plot: Teenage sexpot Dedee (Christina Ricci) escapes Louisiana by crashing with her half-brother in suburbia. She seduces his hot boyfriend and tricks him into taking responsibility for her pregnancy. False gayby alarm!
Gayby today: Does trashiness skip a generation? If so, this fake gayby will have long ago dedicated his life to charity work and clean living.
THE NEXT BEST THING (2000)
Plot: Abbie (Madonna) and Robert (Rupert Everett) get drunk at a wedding and have sloppy, unprotected sex. Whoops! Out pops gayby!
Gayby today: This kid, now a tween, will spend the next few years bugging homeless men to buy him malt liquor under the false impression that mere inebriation can help him score with a MILF like Madge.
