Will Haley Joel Osment Play a Middle-Aged Lesbian Next?

In Sassy Pants, a home-schooled girl's coming-of-age story, Haley Joel Osment, 24, plays Chip, the much younger, party-happy boyfriend of the heroine's deadbeat father (Diedrich Bader). But according to director Coley Sohn, who recently spoke with The Advocate's Jeremy Kinser, her that next film will be a dark comedy about same-sex marriage. "I want Haley to play a middle-aged Midwestern lesbian," she said, which we can only hope is a joke. But Osment said he's ready for the challenge. "We can do it, " he joked. "The technology is there."

Osment has a very distinctive look in the film, including a lip ring and some regrettable hair choices.

"You find a skin for a character, and sometimes it's simple and contained, but Chip has so much going on," he told The Advocate. But he wants to make sure audiences don't think Osment is making fun of the character. "The humor doesn't come from the fact that he's gay," he insists. "It's the attitude and outrageousness of this person firing on all cylinders from such a ridiculous circumstance in life."
