The 'Glee' star appeared on Maddow's show this week. Is this a new power couple we should be watching?

Is Maddow loosening up and going the way of Colbert? Funny lady Jane Lynch (No. 47 on Out's Power List) appeared on Maddow's MSNBC show on Wednesday for an interview, but it opened with Lynch sitting in Maddow's chair, anchoring her nightly "Best New Thing In The World" segment. Lynch also chose the "thing" herself: a memo from a Republican pollster advising the GOP to change its attitudes on gay rights. She said that this shift could be a money-making opportunity for people.

"Some strategists are going to have to make it their specialty to teach Republicans how to be pro-gay while still sounding angry," she said in her jolly tone that's made her a favorite on Glee. "That's a tall order, but the good news is, you can charge more money!"

Lynch even employed Maddow's signature outstretched-arm move and was obviously having a great time. When the camera cut to Maddow, she said: "Jane Lynch, you're the best new thing in the world today! When you said, 'folks,' do I do that?"

"Yes, I was mocking you," Lynch replied.

But for us, we wonder if this is a case of more meta-TV. Now that Brian Williams regularly appears as a version of himself on 30 Rock and so much comedy news has blurred the line between reality and "fiction" (thanks Stephen Colbert), is Maddow also going down that path. Is this a lesbian buddy thing? Or is NBC just so willing to mock and poke fun at the inanity of all the entertainment/news that is out there? We'll be watching more Maddow (who's No. 5 on Out's Power List) to see if this is a trend.
