Around this time of year, we all begin cleaning up our places and getting rid of things we haven't seen in years. Seems even Cher, one of our all-time favorite idols--who was most recently seen with her son Chaz at the GLAAD Media Awards (pictured)--did a sweep of old items to get rid of, including the oversized brass key to the city of Adelaide, Australia.
According to The Guardian, the rare item was discovered in an eBay auction on Sunday by a user named "authentic cher," and bidding has already climbed above $98,000.
"The winner--to be named tonight--will receive Cher's oversized brass key, an engraved plaque, and the item's original box, complete with a handwritten sticky note, labelled 'Mementos.' "
"Think my office fkd up?" the singer wrote.
Proceeds from the sale will reportedly go to Cher's charitable foundation and the singer has since tweeted her confusion of the situation and that, "She will get to the bottom of it."
"[I am] exceptionally disappointed," Adelaide mayor Stephen Yarwood told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I just think that it is more a reflection on [Cher] than the city of Adelaide. It must be very embarrassing for her if she is selling it because she needs the money."
Although the people of Adelaide are probablly going to want their key back, who wouldn't try to cash in a gift worth that much? What was most likely collecting dust in a trophy case could become a brand new car for our much beloved pop goddess.
