All eyes have been on Harlem’s own Azealia Banks since her first single, “212,” dropped and everyone from Kanye West to the New York Times to seemingly every magazine you dared to open declared the young, bisexual rapper to be the next big thing—all without more than a handful of tracks available. Accordingly, any move Banks makes will be closely watched and endlessly scrutinized—so it’s a good thing her new track is so good.
Banks teamed up with producer Diplo, who you might know from his work with M.I.A., Beyonce, and Major Lazer and also from being a total babe. The resulting song, “Fuck The Run,” is a rapid-fire number that shows off Banks’s undeniable ability to spit lines—with her already trademarked foul mouth that could make most other rappers blush—over Diplo’s rat-tat-tat marching band beats.
There might not be the same sort of charm and drunken sing-along possibilities that made “212” so interesting and popular, but as far as letting us know that she’s no one-hit wonder, Banks has hit the mark. Take a listen to “Fuck The Run” below and hold tight, Banks’s debut album is reportedly due out in September.
