The artist Wu Tsang's work is difficult to describe. When I spoke with him earlier this year about being involved in both the New Museum Triennial The Ungovernables as well as the 2012 Whitney Biennial, it took me some time to synthesize his interactive, performative, and complicated practice into something that I hoped people new to the work would be able to find accessible.
In this new clip, Wu does a great job to explain the process of making the film Wildness--from throwing a party in the Silver Platter nightclub to crafting a full-length feature--and how he hopes that the public will be able to easily access this world and the narrative structure of the film.
If you haven't seen his installation, "Green Room," which is a very authentic-looking backstage space (complete with mirrors, chairs, shoes, hairspray, makeup, etc.), it is one of the highlights of the Whitney Biennial and located on the fourth floor of the museum.
