No real surprises last night during the 84th Academy Awards—unless you count the French taking so many awards. While we were mostly obsessed with . And as Alessandra Stanley so tactfully pointed out in the NYTimes, the awards show was was full of tired jokes and racist innuendo. We are excited that Christopher Plummer won for Best Supporting Actor in Beginners, making him the oldest person to win a statue, and he did it for a wonderful portrayal of a man who comes out as gay later in life.
