Movies about porn are a little strange. Often times they end up being moralistic looks at how sex ruins everything and porn destroys lives, even when porn films can end up pulling in more eyeballs than the mainstream Hollywood flicks themselves. So, now we have Cherry, a James Franco-starring flick (directed by smut enthusiast and Adderall Diaries author Stephen Elliott) about, duh, a young girl (Ashley Hinshaw), who takes the advice of her boyfriend and gets into the skin trade... before things careen out of control! Steered by the vengeful claw of Heather Graham! Or something like that. Check it out for yourself below.
Max Berlinger: I'm about to call my lawyer (Larry H. Parker, obvs), 'cause this movie has a striking resemblance to my early twenties--latex nurse outfit included.
Adam Rathe: If they can manage to release this around the same time as Lovelace, I'd definitely hit a midnight double feature. Otherwise, I'm kind of sensing some porno-destroys-young-lady's-life action that we've seen before. And I'm definitely seeing that same porno ruin James Franco's facial hair.
Henry Watson: Looks like mumblecore has gone mainstream, and I still hate it.
Mike Berlin: I knew Rollergirl would find her directorial voice!
Joshua Gardner: That would have been uncomfortable to watch even without the painful silences. Also, this just feeds into my prediction that James Franco is destined to become the next Christopher Walken/Willem Defoe, grossness-is-my-charm type actor.
