Speculation about actor Matt Bomer's sexuality fills many of the gay blogs. Today Towleroad reports that the actor has come out publicly by acknowledging his partner Simon Halls at an awards ceremony where was given the New Generation Arts and Activism Award on Saturday from the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards.
It seems Bomer's involvement with the Ryan Murphy movie adaptation of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart has had an emotional impact on him. In this handheld footage of the event, Bomer concludes his statement with this heartfelt thanks:
"I'd really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry. Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment."
The Simon he mentions is powerful Hollywood publicist Simon Halls. The other names are the names of the couple's three children.
Bomer has also played a gay husband in Dustin Lance Black's play 8.
It seems reminiscent of Jodie Foster's 2007 speech for the Women in Entertainment breakfast when she broke her silence to thank her "beautiful Cydney." While blogs are citing this as a public "coming out," it's unclear if Bomer will indeed speak about his family in a more open forum.
