Oh, Spider-Man. You've been a comic and a cartoon on TV, you've been in movies and on lunchboxes and on Broadway (and subsequently in the ER)--and now you're coming back once more.
Earlier this week, the trailer for the Marc Webb-directed The Amazing Spider-Man, was released, giving the world a peak at Social Network hunk Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and then indomitable Emma Stone as his love interest. It's a handsome, young cast and speaks to our desire to gobble popcorn and watch superheroes wreak havoc on Manhattan, but can the Toby Maguire movies of our the not so distant past really be beat? Jon Roth: Garfield and Stone definitely give the Spiderman franchise some hipster cred, but can they can outdo Maguire and Dunst when it comes to soaking wet, upside down, masked make-outs? Everything rides on this one question.
Jerry Portwood: I think this trailer just made me realize a universal truth: I can't handle anymore reboots. Spider-Man mythology is over. Please don't keep going to that well. If anything, Julie Taymor tainted it forever.
Sarah Olin: I'm OK with any trailer that manages to use the word unitard.
Max Berlinger: The only thing I took away from this is that I prefer Emma Stone as a redhead.
