California Overturns Proposition 8, Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

A federal appeals court deems Proposition 8 unconstitutional, thus ending the state's ban on gay marriage.

"A federal appeals court panel ruled on Tuesday that a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage in California violated the Constitution, all but ensuring that the case will proceed to the United States Supreme Court," the New York Times is reporting. In a ruling of 2 to 1, it was deemed that Proposition 8, which was passed in November of 2008, is a violation of equal rights. (Read The Advocate's coverage, here.)

Common decency and respect for all Rules! Now it is up to the Supreme Court to take responsibility at the Federal Level and make it a Federal Law! I hope we, as Americans united, can move forward now and focus on solving the real problems this world faces. The money and resources we have had to spend on this decision is mind boggling! Civil Rights are Civil Rights and should be the birthright of all Americans. LOVE is the secret and answer to all of the world's problems. We must approach all challenges with LOVE in our hearts and minds and work together to reach agreements that are meaningful to everyone. Injustices, Guns and Bombs never solve problems! These things just send the differences "underground" to fester and grow!

I AM SO thrilled! I live in Portland, Oregon. Washington State will be the next state to legalize marriage equality! Horray for the GLBT community!
