Katy Perry takes home the most trophies, while Ryan Reynolds, Ellen DeGeneres and Emma Stone are honored

Despite the absence of the night's big winner, Katy Perry, who won in five categories, the 38th annual People's Choice Awards went pretty smoothly Wednesday night.

The awards, which honor fan favorites for the year in pop culture, bestowed five honors on Perry, who's laying low due to her split from husband Russell Brand, including best female artist and tour headliner. She also won for a TV guest spot on How I Met Your Mother, song of the year for "E.T." and the music video for "Last Friday Night."

Over 230 million votes were reportedly cast for the show, which is a fun time but does little to shed light on the upcoming awards season.

Winners for the evening included Ellen DeGeneres, Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows: Part Two, which took home awards for favorite movie, action movie, book adaptation and ensemble movie cast; Hot in Cleveland, favorite TV comedy; Johnny Depp, favorite movie actor; Emma Stone, favorite movie actress; Morgan Freeman, favorite icon; Bridesmaids as favorite movie comedy; and Ryan Reynolds as favorite movie superhero for Green Lantern. Check out the rest of the winners here.
