Pic of the Day: Two Women Share Navy's "First Kiss"

12.21.2011

By Mike Berlin

With a smooch, this lesbian couple made Naval history.

In the tradition of creating posts about generally adorable gay couples to overcompensate for the lack of love in our own miserably single lives this holiday season, we'd like to share with you this picture of Marissa Gaeta and Citlalic Snell, both Naval fire controlmen, sharing the "first kiss." Gaeta, who had been deployed for 80 days, said she bought 50 raffle tickets to win the tradition of kissing her girlfriend, Snell, first after the ship docked.

Though this is a frequent occurrence at the end of a Navy deployment, Gaeta and Snell are the first same-sex couple to do it. Oh, and did we mention they're adorable? In the video below, from the Virginian-Pilot, watch them share their reaction to the media coverage and being able to come out after two-and-a-half years of keeping their relationship a secret.

Congratulations, girls! It looks like the real thing. I wish you many happy returns of the day.
