HIDE/SEEK has already made a splash.
The exhibit, which focuses on queer American art and artists from the 19th century to the modern day, was the subject of intense scrutiny and some nasty censorship with David Wojnarowicz's video "A Fire in My Belly" was pulled from the National Portrait Gallery after its Christ imagery offended church-lady types and therefore the elected officials who represent them. More than 100 other pieces of art remained in the show, but the video-- which was shown at New York's New Museum after it was pulled--was the only thing people were talking about.
Luckily it will remain in place when HIDE/SEEK lands at the Brooklyn Museum for a three-month stay beginning November 18. And despite the rumpus, there's way more to the show than just the Wojnarowicz.
