Five Stage Moments to Catch this Fall

Bernadettepetersx633

Sometimes you just got to remind yourself that actors are flesh and blood. Pick one of these five shows this fall or do what we'd do -- see them all.

> Follies. Bernadette Peters and Elaine Page star in this revival of the Stephen Sondheim classic about a group of former stars and their regret-filled pasts. (Now showing at New York City's Marquis Theatre)

> The Submission. Struggling white playwright Danny Larsen (Glee's Jonathan Groff) takes up the pen name "Shaleeha G'ntamobi" for his searing portrait of an African-American family's deterioration. When it's accepted into a distinguished theater festival, the scribe begins to question the nature of his exploitations. (Now showing at New York City's MCC Theater at the Lucille Lortel Theatre)

> When Did You Last See My Mother? This revival of an early play from Oscar-winning queer writer Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons) centers on two roommates -- straight Jimmy and gay Ian -- and the attraction Jimmy's visiting mother develops for Ian. (Opens September 16 at London's Trafalgar Studios 2 Theatre)

> The Bus. This drama about two boys and their titular hideaway takes on pressing urgency when a homophobic church discovers their secret affair. (Opens October 4 at New York City's 59E59 Theaters)

> Bring It On: The Musical. Expect the usual: human pyramids, over-the-top tumbling, spirit-stick dropping, and plenty of cheer sex -- only with a little more background music. (Opens October 30 at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theater)
