In honor of Pride Month, Google is giving us some rainbow -- but is it enough?
If you type the words "gay," "lesbian" or "transgender" into a Google search box you should see a bright, gay rainbow next to the search button.
Not seeing it? There could be several reasons why. As Google explains on its Results as You Type page, you won't see instant results if you're using iGoogle or Google SSL, if you're searching from a page that's not the Google home page, if you've previously disabled autocomplete, or if you're browser's not up-to-date.
Not everybody seeing the six-colored rainbow near their Google search is satisfied with it.
Nicholas Jackson at TheAtlantic.com wrote in an Op-Ed that the Google should have made a full-fledged "Doodle" to honor gay pride, rather than relegate the rainbow to only a handful of searches that are most likely to be made by pro-gay users.
Jackson wrote that "instead of boldly declaring its support" Google took a quieter approach that would "keep [it] from having to deal with any backlash." Not cool.
