First Listen: Johan Agebjörn's "Casablanca Nights"

Johan Agebjorn is perhaps best known for being one half of the Italo disco duo Sally Shapiro, but the Swedish DJ/producer also has a thriving solo career. Earlier this year he released an ambient album, The Mountain Lake, and on Tuesday May 10 we'll get, Casablanca Nights, his first full-length pop-disco album.

Casablanca Nights features collaborations with CFCF, Steve Moore (Lovelock, Zombi, Miracle), Agebjorn's partner, Sally Shapiro, Fred Ventura, Lake Heartbeat, Le Prix, and others. The album was completed with the help of the internet as songs were recorded around the world and then sent back to Sweden where Agebjorn cobbled the pieces together.

Agebjorn sent us the title track from the new album, which features Sally Shapiro on vocals. A song of unrequited love sung from one woman to another woman who is, sadly, in love with a man (who hasn't had to deal with that at one point or another?), "Casablanca Nights" exemplifies the albums shimmering, synthy sound, which has been compared to the feel of "tropical urban disco nights":

Give it a spin and then visit Agebjorn's official website for more info. To pre-order Casablanca Nights, head to iTunes.
