Thou Shalt Covet: Plaid Doctrine Briefcases

What: Plaid Doctrine Briefcase

Where: PlaidDoctrine.com

How Much: $449.00

Why: We'll admit it. We're have a major fashion hangover right now. Yesterday concluded the past four weeks of never-ending catwalks and camera flashes. While you may see a lot of stuff during fashion week, from the ridiculous and the absurd to the inspiring and fabulous, there's one thing that always, always, always seems to be lacking. There are simply too few designers who are dedicated to making things that are both stylish and eco-friendly -- a buzzword that gets thrown around a lot in fashion circles, but not much else. Sure, Stella McCartney is dedicated to making vegan chic (and succeeding quite well), but most other designers put sustainability at the bottom of their list. Tsk, tsk.

But one design opportunity missed is another designer's gain, right? That seems to be the case for Plaid Doctrine, a new accessory company dedicated to fusing bubbly, fun bags with a Earth-loving ethos. With one foot in the past and lifting vintage prints and giving them a new, subversive life (imagine overblown houndstooth in burnt maroon or frothy pastel blue and a mocha/bone mix for a wallpaper stripes) Plaid Doctrine is not about either/or but, instead, focuses on having it all. This means sturdy bags (from laptop bags to iPad cases) that are stylish but made from recycled plastic bottles and tanned vegetable leather. We had to pick our jaws off the grand when we caught wind of that fact. Meanwhile, to cut back on their carbon footprint (and provide jobs at home) everything is 100% made in the USofA. While we usually get a case of buyer's guilt immediately after a purchase these bags seem to have a guilt-free guarantee built in.
