Breaking: John Galliano Arrested for Assault; Suspended from Dior

Zut Alors! As Paris fashion week quickly approaches, it appears that not all designers are burning the midnight oil toiling away for the sake of Anna Wintour. Designer and showman John Galliano -- designer for ritzy, classy Christian Dior -- was arrested last night in Paris for allegedly assaulting a couple at a cafe. Looks like someone had too many vodka-sodas, Vogue UK is reporting.

As to be expected there are already a ton of conspiracy theories floating around, the most scandalous being that Galliano directed anti-semetic epithets at a couple sitting near him during dinner at La Perle in Paris' Marais district (at least he's in a chic locale when he's getting his crazy on!)

To counter that, though, is an alleged eyewitness report over at Sleek Magazine. While these nameless eyewitnesses (always unwilling to reveal their identities, huh?) may have the actual scoop, its a little less salacious, but still pretty juicy. According to Sleek Magazine:

"The designer was pretty drunk but rather in a jolly mood than in an aggressive one. Witnesses say that a couple who sat next to him at the bar didn't recognized the celebrity designer and started to insult him, mistaking him for a bum when he tried to strike up a conversation with them (Galliano's personal style could be at fault here).
On his joyful "cheers everybody!" the woman and her boyfriend replied 'You're ugly, you're disgusting, move away from here!'.
Galliano didn't react to this statement and raised his glass with other bar guests. He then turned around to respond to the lady, saying: 'You're ugly and you're f*cking bag is ugly too.'"

Oh snap! Not only did he give her a tongue-lashing, he insulted her BAG.Damn! If John Galliano slams you, fine, but if he disses your bag? Sister, that is the ultimate indignity. That woman should crawl away and never see the light of day again.

But in all seriousness, the folks over at Dior are not happy. Galliano has been suspended of his duties, indefinitely -- at this point -- and they've released this statement:

"Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance towards any anti-Semitic or racist words or behaviour. Pending the results of the inquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from his responsibilities."

Merde! Dior is showing in just a couple of days. It's always one of the most anticipated shows of the season -- the brand is synonymous with French soignee and the penultimate in chic-ta-tude (we just made that word up). And we thought some wispy little rumors about Stefano Pilati were going to be the juicy gossip highlights of this Fashion Week. How wrong we were!. We want to get Anna Dello Russo and Rachel Zoe in on this and picket the police station, like the kids of Beverly Hills High School did for Donna Martin.

We'll be keeping you up to date on any other news, as it comes in.
