Johnny Weir Comes Out (and James Franco, too?)

Though the news is hardly shocking, there's something nice about finally and officially being able to say Johnny Weir is on our "team."

In his new memoir, Welcome To My World, which hits bookstores on January 11, the 2010 Out 100 honoree reveals that he first new something was different when he was six: "Watching Richard Gere in Pretty Woman...was when I had first realized there was something different about me. I wanted to be Julia Roberts so badly. Kissing seemed like a weird thing to do, but I knew if I was going to do it, it would be with Richard Gere."

Weir had a secret affair with another skater when he was 16 and came out to his mother when he was 18. In the memoir Weir also discusses pressures within the skating world to be seen as masculine in order to survive ("One had to act like a man. On skates and in sparkles...") and why "the massive backlash against me in the gay media and community only made me dig my 'closeted' heels in further." Excerpts from Welcome To My World can be read in the current issue of People.

In other coming out news, James Franco chatted with Entertainment Weekly recently about his penchant for all things (plots, poems, parts) gay and ended the conversation by revealing "Part of what I'm interested in is how these people who were living anti-normative lifestyles contended with opposition. Or, you know what, maybe I'm just gay."

We're not buying it -- but boys (all over the world) can dream, can't they?
