Truman Says

In His Shoes

So, as many of you know, Michelle Obama has been a delightful, and fashionable, presence in the White House since her hubby was inaugurated as Prez. There are websites and blogs dedicated to her every sartorial whim and whether she be wearing an Alaia skirt, a J. Crew cardigan or a thrifted gown you can bet that someone is chatting about it. And we love her for it, even if it does come across as slightly sexist. She's brought a modern and sophisticated sense of femininity to the White House and there ain't nothing wrong with that. But now it seems that Barack himself is making some fashion waves, which is difficult seeing as the presidential uniform is pretty clear-cut: suit and tie. But it isn't apparel that he's being critiqued for, its his choice in footwear. Namely, the fact that he was spotted in sandals. The New York Post published an article naming Obama as the first president to go strolling around with exposed toes, a new benchmark in casual comfort (in his defense he was on vacation in Hawaii). We have a sneaking suspicion that Michelle did not approve of this footwear, though.
