Please Don't Say That: Director Jake Scott Talking About Kristen Stewart

Director of the soon-to-be cinematic masterpiece Welcome to the Rileys just did something that makes me not-so-happy. As told to MTV, Jake Scott said of the star of the film, Kirsten Stewart (yes, she of Twilight fame),"I've known her three years and she's just become this wonderful woman. She's gonna do some um... I mean.. That's some Meryl Streep stuff, you know?"

Um, yes Jake, I do know, and what Kristin's peddlin', I ain't buying. Please don't compare some flash-in-the-pan actress who's main credit to date is to play coy with a vampire to THE ONE AND ONLY MERYL STREEP. I don't take too kindly to that sort of chatter. From this dim-witted comment, I'm going to deduce that Scott has only seen classic Streep moments a la Sophie's Choice, The Hours, Silkwood and Out of Africa. Because if Mr. Movie Director Guy had feasted his eyes on the beauty that is Death Becomes Her, She-Devil or The Devil Wears Prada (much less her oft-forgotten uncredited cameo as herself in the Farrelly Brothers' Stuck on You), he would be sticking his foot half-way down his damn throat by this time. So everybody has to get off the whole, 'I'm going to compare so-and-so to Meryl Streep or Robert DeNiro" thing. It's pretty obvious at this point and it's also highly unlikely that we've found their replacements quite yet, so, just stop.

PS - Stewart and Scott seem to be getting pretty up close and personal in this picture, if you know what I mean. I wonder if that has anything to do with his warped view of her acting abilities.
