Dave Koz, the smooth jazz saxophonist, and openly gay man, released his highly anticipated fifteenth album earlier this week (yes, you read that right, fifteenth). Koz is well-known and respected throughout the industry and has a career that spans more than twenty years working with some of the most legendary names in music. He's known for his live performances which have taken him all over the world -- all from blowing into that little sax of his (he tends to prefer soprano or alto, just in case you were wondering). He's also hosted like a bajillion radio shows on smooth jazz stations, which seems random, but hey girl, if they'd pay us to do something like that you'd better believe we'd show up. We like his hustle!
This album is his first time working with Concord Records and he's enlisted some friends to help him spice up the tracks. Keb'Mo', Boney James Jonathan Butler, Sheila E., Ray Parker Jr., and Christian Scott all pop up on the album, helping back-up Koz or even trading licks with him. Considering his long history as a performer and music man, he's still cranking out tunes -- with selections ranging from brassy to quiet and moody -- to keep up with the best of them. Above is quick preview and interview with Koz and a little taste of the debut single, "Put The Top Down" There's a joke in there somewhere...
