While the Toronto International Film Festival is still in the process of announcing its 2010 line-up, we know that at least two queer directors will be walking down the red carpet.
France's Francois Ozon (Swimming Pool, Time to Leave), who we profiled in the most recent issue of Out, has once again teamed up with Catherine Deneuve for his newest work, Potiche. Ozon's twelfth film stars the French superstar as the wife of a wealthy yet tyrannical industrialist. After his mistreated workers strike and hold him hostage, Deneuve takes over the factory and effectively runs it with the help of her former lover, played by Gerard Depardieu.
In addition, John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus) will be premiering his third feature, Rabbit Hole, starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart. Based on a play by David Lindsay-Abaire, the film follows the journey of a married couple who must learn to come to terms with the death of their four-year-old son.
Though neither of the films features gay characters, it's likely that both Ozon and Cameron will add their distinct queer bents to these heavy narratives.
