With the new season of iconic UK series Doctor Who, it's out with the old and in with the new. After the departure of David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, and the shows' entire production team, which included Russell T. Davies -- the man who resurrected the Doctor in 2005 -- a whole new team has been gathered together to bring Eleven onto our screens.
From fans filing reports to official Doctor Who Magazine interviews, the past few months have been full of titillating tid-bits regarding what can be expected from the new team of writers and actors. Everything from the logo to the Doctor's time-travelling TARDIS has been redesigned and spruced up for Eleven (Matt Smith) with his signature bow tie and his new companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), who seems to have a mini-skirt fetish. The two will be battling vampires in 16th century Venice, solve a van Gogh (played by Tony Curran of 24) mystery with the help of Bill Nighy in 19th century France, and visit England set in the far future.
Steven Moffat, who's written some of the most memorable recent episodes, has the creative reins and he's bringing his creations with him; this includes the terrifying Weeping Angels (introduced in the episode "Blink") and River Song (Alex Kingston). Perhaps the flirty Captain Jack Harkness, bereft and without a team, will drop in for a visit or two. Torchwood writers Chris Chibnall and Toby Whithouse, Love Actually scribe Richard Curtis, and The League of Gentlemen co-creator Mark Gatiss have also taken on writing duties. Just the team to terrify and thrill the show's global audience.
In an effort to appease the show's U.S. audience, the new season, which consists of 13 episodes, will premiere on BBCAmerica on April 17th, only a short while after the tentative April 3 UK start date. Set your DVRs!
