The tenth season of Dancing With the Stars began last night, with a lean pack of 11 stars ready to throw down for the trophy. Perhaps budget cuts and focus groups against painful double elimination episodes influenced the change in the number of participants, or maybe now that stars have caught onto how much physical labor is involved in participating, they aren't so quick to sign on. This season has some reasonably big names on the roster, including disarmingly charming Pamela Anderson, astronaut and elder heartthrob Buzz Aldrin, and That Guy Who Won Ice Skating Gold (who isn't Johnny Weir, which is fine because Johnny has his own show, damnit, and doesn't need to be a ringer in a ballroom dancing reality show, thank you), but let's take a look at who will probably go home first: Kate Gosselin.
OK, starting off the segment with your dance partner telling you to act like you want to be there is probably an inauspicious beginning. We, as a nation, are not over our Kate Gosselin fatigue. I thought Tom DeLay was a case of the "too soon"s but this is worse. Also, DWTS is a mom show, which might make one think a mom of 8 would be popular, but in this case, it is probably leading to lots of tongue-clucking about leaving your kids to go off and do more reality television and show off your blond extensions. Sorry, Kate, you might have better scores than Buzz, but don't get too comfy in your dressing room.
Right now it seems the one to beat is ex-Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, aka this season's Mya.
But my personal favorite is Niecy "I like my jiggly parts" Nash:
No results show yet -- we get to watch them all dance again next Monday and try to get more votes.
